When I arrived in Auckland, after a few months travelling in the North Island, I had absolutely no plan.
You would think I would know in advance, where I was going to work? No way! What I enjoy the most as a backpacker, is all these unexpected events which happen every day. However, I have to admit that I’d have been much happier if I had known which backpackers’ hostel to go to when I arrived, to save dozens of dollars on the first few nights.
Airbnb can be a good option, but the cheapest rooms are usually outside the CBD. What I love with the cheapest backpackers hostels in Auckland (contrary to Airbnb rooms), is the social aspect they bring. When you are a backpacker, moving around a totally new city, they are a great way to make friends who have shared interests.

Share your lunch and dinner on the rooftop of this hostel, then jump into the rooftop spa, before going to Ponsonby for a beer – or more!

Not always the cheapest one, but this hostel sometimes offers a range of surprisingly low prices compared to the others. Clean, cheap and a very basic backpacker hostel.
